Cape Town

Looking to get some different kind of vibes on your vacation this summer, well try out the majestic city of Cape Town, South Africa. This vibrant city is also nicknamed ‘The Mother City’ to travelers and it definitely lives up to its name. Cape Town is the second most populated city in South Africa, boasting a large percentage of the West African Cape’s population. With its warm summers and mild winters, this location is great year round. This city is home to an array of beautiful white sandy beaches, a vast amount of aquatic life and exploration, and a lot of activities for travelers from day to night. We have constructed the top 4 reasons to visit Cape Town, South Africa for the aquatic lover! From lazy day’s sunbathing at the beach to thrill seeking underwater adventures, there is something for just about everyone in Cape Town. Take a look below and get ready to book that plane ticket.

Boulders Beach

WADDLE, WADDLE

How cute are penguins? So cute right! Well, Boulders Beach located near the Cape of Good Hope is home to colonies and colonies of African Penguins! These cute little birds have taken over this beach and definitely made it their own. Tourists come year round to see these flightless birds and of course take tons of pics for Instagram!

Long Beach

EAT, SLEEP, SURF, REPEAT.

South Africa is known for having some great surf spots all along its coastline. Cape Town has some of the beast so get ready to grab your bikini, your board, and hit the waves. Muizenberg Beach, which is also known as Surfer’s Corner is a great place for beginners. While Long Beach is another great spot, but more for intermediate surfers. And if you are looking for monster waves, of course you’ve got to check out Dungeons. If you’ve never gone surfing before, Cape Town is a great place to try. There are many surf shops that offer lessons too!

Shark Diving

FOR THE THRILL OF IT

Now if you are the adrenaline pumping, thrill seeking, adventure addict this activity will be just for. I adore aquatic life and sharks happen to be my favorite animal, so shark diving will be right up my alley. There are a multitude of shark diving companies in Cape Town, so there are plenty to choose from. Check out The White Shark Diving Company located in Gansbaai, they have anywhere from 1-day to 7-day cage diving experiences. It will definitely be an experience you will remember forever.

Sea Point Swimming Pools

SALTWATER POOLS NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD

And if you aren’t feeling the beach you can always check out a nice pool. The Sea Point Swimming Pool is a group of pools (including one olympic sized pool) that are filtered seawater in Sea Point, South Africa. These pools are opened year round to the public and are overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.  I mean, does it get better than that? We don’t think so.

V&A

And don’t worry, you don’t have to spend all your time in Cape Town in the water. I mean you totally can, but you don’t have to. There are plenty of other things to see and do all over the city. Check out the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront it is filled with over 80 restaurants and an indoor shopping center. A short trek from the waterfront is Table Mountain where you can check out one of the best views you will probably ever see. I am a 23 year female originally from Boston, Massachusetts and currently reside in Wilmington, North Carolina. I have lived in North Carolina for about 13 years. I moved to Wilmington to attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Theatre. I have many interests, because I like to dabble in a little bit of anything. However my favorite this to do is travel - especially to tropical countries! I love the feeling of being somewhere new and the enjoyment of going to interesting shops or tasting mouthwatering food. I go to the beach almost everyday. I have a deep love of the ocean and beach activities. I like how time seems to slow down and everyone seems happier at the beach or in the ocean. Some of my other enjoyments include any form of art. My three favorite mediums are fashion, music, and painting/drawing. I am always striving to get better or learn something new. People would describe me as always smiling and ready for the next adventure! I am a person with a lot of passion and drive, but tend to stay very mellow.
